How do I get rid of Permanent Hair Dye?

My natural hair colour is medium - dark brown. I dyed it a different shade of brown about 5 months ago. My roots have started to show, but the contrast between the two colours isn't that bad. I'm fed up of dying my hair, and want to get back to my natural colour as quick as possible.

My hair is about 4 inches past my shoulders, if that is any help.

Thank you so much to anyone who answers!

you can't get rid of permanent color. it's permanent. you've altered the pigment in your hair.

the best you can do is dye the ends to match the roots as best as you can. you would have to use 10 volume peroxide with your color, as this will only deposit color, not lift and deposit (which fades)

the easiest thing to do would be to go to a salon and have them put a toner on the ends to match the base. this doesn't damage your hair, it just alters the tone. it will also leave your hair in really good condition. find someone who uses Redken Shades EQ

*edit*

yes, there are color removing kits. these are basically bleach. they can definitely damage your hair. toners are color glosses, they do not damage the hair at all.

All I can think of doing is dying it one last time a colour between the two you have now (your natural one and the coloured one) and then leaving it to grow out completely because there is not much else you can do to get permanent dye out.

Also I know what is like, I dyed my hair so much and I decided to let it grow out, but you could see the re-growth and I did what I explained above and I hope I'll never have to dye it again.

Or one last thing you might want to do, is go to a salon and tell them what you want to do and get them to dye it your natural colour or very close to, and then you should be right to let it grow out.
