I have been pulling my head hair :S?

Ok, no, you dont have to tell me i am mad, because i know i am, or rather was!!!

I am 15 years old. I dont know why but i since 2 months ago (i was having my exams then) i have developed this habit of pulling threads of my hair one by one ( the part from where i part my hair)... now there is a wide, long patch of nothingness over there... and the new hair that is growing is standing in a really silly way (not so prominent but yes, visible )..

My question is: plz tell me SOME way to stop my hands from going there!!! I have no idea when my hands start pulling my hair and when i have slready pulled a couple of hair, i realise and quickly put my hand down! I used to have such thick, shiny hair, but now they are so thin!!!

It started at the time when i was having exams, and now that i am done with my exams, i am still doing it!!!!! Plz help!!

Thanks a lot

Just try to keep your hands busy

This sounds like trichotillomania to me. The stress of your exams would've been what set it off, but once you start, it's really hard to stop, I believe.

My partner also has this condition, and she has made patches in her hair when she is very stressed as well. Like you, she never notices doing it. The only thing that stops her is if she literally covers her hair with a bandanna or something similar to break the habit for a couple of days. I don't know if there's a particular treatment for it, though. Hope this helped. Good luck!
Reply:I've seen alot of this being a hair dresser, yes its all nerves doing this to u the best thing to do and it works see a doctor they will give u a shot of cortizone in that area that will make ur hair grow back it will take awhile but it will grow back, about how to stop pullin it out its all up to u being nervous does crazy things to u and u sometimes have no control of it or dont even know u are doin it,talk to the doc get the shot maybe u will stop after the shot remembering the pain of it will help u good luck...
Reply:well this could be also a way for you for self injury instead pf cutting...i used to cut not anymore
Reply:Have something else in hand to keep them busy, don't chew on them, no, no, nothing like that. Get like those squishy balls you can find at drugstores and that should help. It did for me!

Reply:I actually just saw a TV show a few weeks ago, I think it was 20/20. They did a whole segment on this. It happens to completely normal people (so no you're not going mad) I think there was a beauty queen and a Hollywood stylist on the show who suffer from this.

I'd suggest doing some research and try to find out some tips and tricks that can help you find a way to control it.

I'm sorry you're going through this and good luck!
